[Users] Qfield issue on Samsung Galaxy S10

Hi Matthias,

I think i’ve solved my problem – I am the issue! After me doubting QField, and your suggestion that it’s something else I had a think.

I then realised that when I do my file management to delete all the pictures I get sent on WhatsApp and which annoy me as they get stored in my gallery, I was also deleting the .tiff files. The tiff files automatically get added to my gallery on the Samsung phone, but appear as blank images. I assumed they were rubbish so deleted, and in doing so also removed them from the QFIeld directory.

All along it was me.

I am sorry I bothered you about this as it wasn’t a QField error.....but you did help me solve the problem, so thank you for that.

Thank you again for your support with the app.

Best wishes

Peter

Hi Peter,

I can't explain this with QField alone.
Does this also happen if you don't ever open QField at all? The only explanation I have is that some other app does some housekeeping and cleans things up.

Hi Matthias,

Following on from my change of directory name, the same has happened, and the .tif files are removed from the directory.  It does not appear to be related to the directory name.

All I have done this time is open the project, check it is there and then close it.  Nothing else.  One day later I open the project, and the .tif files have gone!

Thanks

Hi Peter,

Does this also happen if you put it into another root folder than /QField?

QField does in general not remove any file. However the folder /QField is a bit special since it comes with a couple of "special" folders (basemaps, grids etc. go in there).

Hi Matthias et al.

I’m still getting a load of great use out of Qfield so thank you for that!

I was in touch previously about problems with my Samsung S7.  Lucky me, I now have a Samsung S10!  All is working ok but I have an irritation (which isn’t stopping me working).

In my projects, I use UK Ordnance Survey base maps which are in the Qfield project as .tif files.  For some reason, they get deleted from the Qfield project directory on the Samsung device after a few days.  The files are originally there, and I can work with them for the first few days, but then disappear!  If I don’t check before going out, I can arrive on site and get an “Unable to load some layers” message when I fire up Qfield.  It doesn’t stop me using the app but I just don’t have background mapping.

I package a project with QFieldSync, then copy the files from my PC into a “QField/Project Name” directory on the internal storage of the Samsung S10.

It’s only the .tif files that get removed.

I’m on QField Version 1.7.8

Thanks

Peter
